As one would imagine, the lake is a fisherman’s paradise. Anyone fishing at Lake Cumberland will find plenty of bass. There are smallmouth, largemouth, white and Kentucky bass. In addition, the lake is well stocked with bluegill, crappie, rockfish and walleys. The local country store rents fishing gear year-round. Remember, a fishing license is required and can be purchased online at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The lake is a real angler’s paradise with lots of trophy fish and tournaments.
Bird lovers will be over the moon at the lake. Additionally, bird sightings occur in any season. Look for red-tailed hawks, great horned owls, screech owls and more. Wood ducks, herons, kingfishers and whip-poor-wills abound in the fall and winter. The cliff walls on boat ramp road are known for many nesting chimney swifts. Likewise, wild turkeys live in the state park.
